Large 4to. xii, 824pp, coloured frontis and 10 (of 11) coloured plates (3 folding, including 'the Boy's Own Fowl Yard'); 'many hundred other [b&w] illustrations by the most popular artists of the day'; coloured endpapers. One plate (the Snow Leopard and the Eagle, p385) has been removed. Publisher's red cloth, decoratively stamped in gilt and black; a few small light damp spots down the fore-margin of the upper board, spine faded; extremities a little rubbed. Small manuscript gift plate 'To Reggie, from Granny' on verso of frontis. The pages are crisp and clean. A very good copy, albeit lacking one plate.
